Beginning Jewelry: The Basics
July 8-12 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)

This workshop will cover the basics of metal fabrication on a jewelry scale.
Techniques include designing, drilling, sawing, filing, piercing, bezel making, riveting and soldering. We will explore basic surface textures using a rolling mill; hammers and texturing tools.
We will also learn about simple clasps, chains and findings, allowing for you to complete finished pieces. Material resources, proper tool use and safety will also be covered.
The workshop will offer many samples, slides, lectures and demonstrations.
This workshop is for beginning level students or for those with experience who would like an opportunity to review techniques.

Lost Wax Casting and Beyond
July 15-19 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Instructor: Angela Gleason
This workshop will focus on creative approaches to wax design.
Students will work in various waxes, which we will cast in bronze or silver. We will also explore more direct processes for casting such as cuttlefish as well as mold making.
Students will learn wax work, spruing, investing, centrifical and gravity casting. They will make rings and/or pendants as well as components for including in their other jewelry designs.
Basic fabrication experience helpful, but not required.
