HSU's 69 Smart Classrooms enhance the classroom experience with the latest in computer and projection technology. Comfortable podium-style consoles house a variety of multimedia and computer equipment connected to LCD projection for bright, clear imagery.
Classroom Technology Services staff collaborate with faculty and conduct ongoing research into emerging teaching technologies to ensure HSU Smart Classrooms meet the dynamic needs of today's digitally-savvy students.
Smart Classrooms are equipped with instructional technology by ITS. Academic Affairs funds these facilities for the purpose of supporting HSU faculty in their classroom instruction; faculty may also from time to time require students to use this technology to complete specific coursework.
All Smart Classrooms contain the following core equipment:
Additional capabilities and equipment are listed for each room. Additionally, many equipment items are also available for checkout from Classroom Technology Services for classroom use on a temporary basis.
Instructions for using the equipment in each Smart Classroom are posted in the classrooms and are available for download in PDF format from the equipment listing page. More instruction sets will be added soon.
Faculty may freely install demonstration versions of other software products for temporary usage if they have administrative rights on the Smart Classroom systems, but should be aware that, for security reasons, such software will be automatically removed from the computer each time the system is restarted.
Review the list of network connections in Smart Classrooms with jack numbers.
Consult the complete list of Smart Classroom locations, equipment usage instructions, and non-core hardware and software before scheduling.
To ensure successful lectures and presentations using the installed instructional technology, faculty are advised to undertake an orientation for each individual room used. Refresher orientations are also recommended for those who have not used Smart Classrooms recently - equipment is continually being upgraded and improved capabilities added. An orientation may be scheduled any time by calling (707) 826-3166 or by email.
Students required to use Smart Classroom facilities as part of their coursework should also undertake orientation; these sessions are also scheduled, individually or groupwide, by calling (707) 826-3166 or by email.
Smart Classrooms are equipped with all software licensed for campus-wide use. Faculty may request the installation of additional software for short-term or semester use provided all appropriate licensing can be verified. Faculty may also freely install demonstration versions of other software products for temporary usage, but should be aware that, for security reasons, such software will be automatically removed from the computer when the system is restarted.
Check the complete list of software installed on Smart Classroom computers. Note that Macintosh installations also dual-boot Windows, which is loaded with the same standard Windows software.
To report a problem with equipment in a Smart Classroom, please access and complete the problem report form.
