Why this program
Close-Knit Community
We’re a lively and supportive department that’s committed not only to your success at Humboldt but also your future.
Hands-on Learning
Students are actively involved in their learning, and have modeled plasmas on a super-computer, designed activities for local k-12 students, and regularly compete in national math contests.
After Graduation
A Mathematics degree builds a foundation to pursue a higher degree in many different fields and develops the analytical and problem-solving skills prized by employers.
Did you know?
Contemporary mathematics continues the tradition of providing the underlying basis and structure for virtually all modern scientific and technological developments.
Every year, math students are invited to participate in the State of Jefferson Mathematics Congress. This weekend camping trip brings mathematics students and faculty together from Humboldt and other universities in the region to share math, meals, and a campfire.
Careers
Mathematics students hone their ability to think critically, becoming thoughtful about what they state and what they prove. These skills are crucial, especially in a world of endless information and big data. Knowing how to analyze and solve problems prepares for a variety of fields in public and private sectors.
