This year's homecoming was a total success thanks to the friends and families of Humboldt State. Hundreds of people travelled to HSU to watch the Jacks triumph over Southern Oregon, catch up with old friends, take in a campus tour and enjoy the fun of Homecoming & Family Weekend.

This year Humboldt State inducted six former student-athletes into the Hall of Fame. Softball players B.J. Helfrich-Heilmann and Christen Hardee, and track and field athlete Keeta Zimmerman-Duke represented the women’s athletics program, while football players Carl Posey and Rex Chappell, and track and field standout Dutcher Yerton were the men’s honorees.

HSU welcomed the class of 1959 into the ranks of Golden Graduates. On Saturday, the newest class of Golden Grads rekindled old ties at the annual luncheon. Some reminisced about cheap gas prices—25¢ for an eight mile trip. Others recalled their favorite campus jobs, such as operating the telephone switchboards in Founders Hall.
Talk often centered on the number of students at Humboldt State, where enrollment is now about 8,000 students. The large number took some Golden Grads, like JoAnne “Jody” McGuire by surprise. “In ’55 there were only 1,000 students,” McGuire said. “And that was a really big milestone. Imagine.”

National Geographic recently spent months among the world’s tallest trees with Humboldt State’s own redwood expert, Professor Stephen Sillett, the Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood Ecology. Homecoming guests were treated to a screening of the documentary produced from this work, which explores the science behind the world’s largest trees.

HSU's Jacks looked spectacular, limiting the Southern Oregon University Raiders to just 241 yards, helping the Lumberjacks improve to 4-3 overall.

The weekend wrapped up with Sunday Brunch in the “J”. Students and families filled their bellies and said goodbye before it was time to crack the books for class on Monday.
