While we're not quite prognosticators on par with Nostradamus, you could say we saw the "green" writing on the wall before it was dry. For decades, Humboldt State has been researching alternative energy, educating environmental engineers, and helping students create sustainable communities.
HSU students carry out research on solar, biomass and other alternative energy sources with expert professors (like Arne Jacobson, pictured here with students at our solar monitoring station). Our internationally renowned Schatz Energy Research Center has developed hydrogen fuel technology and even operates a hydrogen fueling station on campus. The Renewable Energy Student Union club promotes application of clean energy technologies, and the Humboldt Energy Independence Fund pays for student-driven renewable energy projects on campus.
In fact, there are literally hundreds of classes, clubs and initiatives at Humboldt State that focus on creating a greener, more sustainable future.
