Summer Session

Summer 2023 Open University, High School Concurrent Enrollment Program, and Over 60 Program

Thank you for your interest in Cal Poly Humboldt. There have been many changes this summer. The biggest change is that Extended Education will no longer host the summer session. Community members and non-Cal Poly Humboldt students can still participate in classes, but will register through Open University, the High School Concurrent Enrollment Program, or the Over 60 Program. Registration for these programs opens May 22, 2023.

With summer session changes, comes a new set of California State rules and regulations. There is also a generous scholarship opportunity for many Cal Poly Humboldt students that will cover up to six units (about two classes). Because of this scholarship, we anticipate limited class space for community members.

We appreciate your patience during this time. We will offer these programs in the fall and spring.

Summer 2024 registration opens April 8. The Summer 2024 Course Schedule is now available on the Registrar’s website

This summer, when you enroll and stay in six units, Cal Poly Humboldt will cover up to four of those units. If you already qualify for financial aid, you may get more units covered. See the FAQ below for further details.

To plan your classes, please reach out to your designated academic advisor. To better understand your fee assistance and number of units covered, please contact Financial Aid to begin planning your summer term.

FAQ: Summer Term 2024 Fee Waiver

Who is eligible for the four covered units?

Continuing Cal Poly Humboldt undergraduates who enroll and stay in six summer units are eligible.

If you are an active student with an enrollment date of fall 2024, you are also eligible for summer 2024 enrollment. If you are an undergraduate who is graduating in spring 2024, you are not eligible for the fee waiver.

Are financial aid and Pell Grants available for summer 2024?

Does this include students in the Leadership Studies B.A. program?

Yes.

Are matriculated students in self-support faculty-led study abroad or field studies courses eligible for the four covered units?

No, but scholarships will be available for these programs. Students (graduate and undergraduate) can discuss scholarships with the faculty leading these programs and with Financial Aid.

Which programs and costs are NOT eligible for the fee waiver?

The folllowing programs and costs are not eligible for this fee waiver:

  • Master’s programs
  • Campus-based fees
  • Extension non-credit courses
  • Extension Special Sessions courses
  • Books and class materials
  • Internships, directed/independent study
  • Students who have been disqualified from Humboldt
  • Students seeking a second bachelor’s degree

Is campus housing available in the summer term?

Yes. Campus housing is available for students enrolled in summer courses and programs. Summer housing costs information is available, and summer housing applications open on April 3, 2024.

What if I am on academic notice or reinstatement as of spring 2024?

As a current student, you are eligible for the fee waiver, even if one or more of your GPAs (Term, Humboldt, or Cumulative) are below 2.0.

Please speak with your academic advisor or the Academic and Career Advising Center about your individual situation.

Summer session is considered an academic term for GPA purposes, and will factor into your academic standing at Cal Poly Humboldt.

What happens if I do not pass a class that was covered by the fee waiver?

The fee waiver stands no matter what grade you receive; however, summer session is considered an academic term for GPA purposes and will factor into your academic standing at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Please speak with your academic advisor or the Academic and Career Advising Center about your individual situation.

How do I drop a class?

Please see the The registrar's Summer Term website for more enrollment information.
