MUSIC PROGRAMS

Explorations in Afro-Cuban Dance & Drum

An annual summer week-long program that celebrates the folkloric music, songs, and dances of Afro-Cuba. Internationally-recognized instructors join local faculty to teach students of all skill levels. Havana, Matanzas and Haitiano styles of Afro-Cuban dance and drum techniques will be represented. Visit the Explorations in Afro-Cuban Dance & Drum website.

Brass Chamber Music Workshops

In two sessions each summer, BCMW welcomes brass musicians of all ability levels to play chamber music for brass instruments. The unique workshop setting and extensive music library provide participants with the opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles, ranging from trios to dectets, with coaching by some of the finest brass players on the West Coast. Visit the Brass Chamber Music Workshops website.

The Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop

This is the longest-running chamber music workshop in California. It offers three sessions every summer. Musicians from all over the U.S. gather for a week of music-making. Each day an assignment is given, each group is coached by a professional coach, and performs a 5-minute segment of the work in a program for the other participants. There are mixed instrumentation (strings, woodwinds, piano, horn) ensembles and the music is varied. Visit the Humboldt Chamber Music website.

Humboldt Music Academy

Music classes for ages 2 through 18 include Suzuki method classes, classes in singing, musical theater, fiddle playing, world folk music, bucket drumming and more. Several ensembles and private lessions are also available. Presented by the College of eLearning & Extended Education and the HSU Department of Music in fall, spring and summer.
