46th Annual Humboldt Film Festival

Van Duzer Theater
Famous in the independent film industry as the longest student-run festival in the world, the top international entries for short films (1-30 minutes in length) are entered in four categories: Experimental, Animation, Documentary, and Narrative.

Dates: Apr.17, 18, 19, 20
Time: 7 p.m. nightly
Place: Van Duzer Theatre

The films, which have been pre-screened and rated by HSU Film Fest students over the past several months, will be screened for the audience and professional judges Wednesday through Friday (7 p.m. each night), with the “Best of Fest” winners announced and screened on Saturday night.

The Judges this year are director Corey Grant and producer Chavez Frazier, whose independent feature film, Bigfoot:The Lost Coast Tapes, was shot in Humboldt and Del Norte counties in the spring of 2011. The sequel is scheduled to be filmed here in June.

Both Corey and Chavez will be featured in a Q&A with the audience all four nights of the festival.

Nelson Hall Fire Drill

HSU Campus
HSU Police will be conducting brief fire evacuation drills for select buildings on campus.

Whenever you hear a fire alarm, exit out the closest exit and evacuate calmly to the Rally Point outside your building. Do not use elevators, assist others and report people who are in need of help to your Building Evacuation Team member or to emergency personnel.

This testings is conducted annually in the spring and in the fall.

April is Disaster Preparedness Month and HSU would like to help you prepare by offering preparedness classes.

Learn how to prepare for the next big earthquake or disaster, because it's not a matter of if - it's a matter of when!

Find out how to Get a Kit of emergency supplies; Make a Plan for what you will do in an emergency; Be Informed by learning about alert notifications and hazards in your area; and Get Involved with preparedness in your community.

Jan Marnell from UPD Emergency Management will lead discussions about disaster preparedness, building evacuations, active shooter, sheltering in place, earthquakes and other emergencies that could affect us on campus and on the North Coast.
