3:00 pm-4:00 pm	Maria Melendez Poetry Reading Goodwin Forum Maria Melendez is author of two collections of poetry from University of Arizona Press: How Long She'll Last in This World (2006), a finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award, and Flexible Bones (2010), a finalist for the Colorado Book Award. Her essays appear in Ms. Magazine and Sojourns and her poetry and essays are widely anthologized, appearing in Sisters of the Earth: Women’s Prose & Poetry About Nature, and in Colors of Nature: Culture, Identity & the Natural World. She currently lives in Pueblo, CO, where she edits Pilgrimage, a literary magazine emphasizing the themes of spirit, witness and place. Sponsored by the departments of English and CRGS, and by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Join us for an opening reception Thursday, February 21, from 5-7 p.m. in the Goudi’ni Gallery, at 17th and Union, on the first floor of the Behavioral and Social Sciences building.
5:30 pm-7:00 pm	California’s Sustainable Resources Future Behavioral and Social Sciences Building John Laird, California's Secretary for Natural Resources, presents "California’s Sustainable Resources Future” as part of HSU's Sustainable Lecture Series. John Laird was appointed California's Secretary for Natural Resources by Governor Jerry Brown in 2011. He has spent 35 years in public service, including 23 years as an elected official. In 2002, Laird was elected to represent the 27th Assembly District in the California Assembly, which includes parts of Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara counties. While serving the maximum three terms in the Assembly, Laird authored 82 bills that were signed into law. Laird has been a long-time resident of Santa Cruz with his spouse John Flores. He has traveled extensively, is fluent in Spanish, enjoys conducting family history research, and is a life-long Chicago Cubs fan.

Part of the Peer Health Education program's annual Sexland event. The peer health education program is an initiative of the Health and Wellness Center.
6:00 pm-8:30 pm	Campus Conservation Nationals Kick-Off Event The "J" Dining Hall Join us in the bottom of the J for free food, prizes, energy trivia, a bike powered blender demonstration and more! During Campus Conservation Nationals, students in The Hill, Canyon, Creekview, and College Creek residence halls will compete against each other and over 200 colleges nationwide for the largest percent reduction in energy use Feb. 13 - March 6. Building status and rank will be updated twice a week at the website below.
