| 6:30 pm-9:00 pm | Exploring Textiles: Knitting One Stitch at a Time - BeginnerHSU Recreation and Wellness CenterKnitted fabrics are fairly new in the history of textiles, approximately 300 years of archaeology samples have been discovered to date. Knitting is a portable craft that can be worked in the leisurely environment of your home or can travel with you anywhere in the world! Learn the basics of knitting while creating a variety of projects; miniature bags, a basic hat and hand clothes. Knit the 4 basic structures: stockinette, garter, rib and seed stitches. Discover how to use 2 colors of yarn in a project, the many traits of natural and synthetic fibers, and begin to fix common mistakes every knitter experiences. Every project will introduce you to techniques that will lay the foundation towards more complex knitting. Examples of a large variety of knitted projects will be shared to reinforce techniques you learn, and will inspire you to begin imagining what your future projects will be. |
