As part of the Pan-Asian Pacific Islander Perspectives festival, A.P.A.S.A. presents "Turning Hatred Into Hope: Perspectives of a Survivor of the Cultural Revolution" by Betty Chinn.
Betty Chinn is a local heroine whose mission is to care for the county's homeless. Almost 365 days a year, Betty serves a meal and a hot cup of coffee to hundreds of people at the parking lot near the Humboldt County Welfare Office. She also distributes clothing, hygiene products and other needed items.
Betty lived through China's Cultural Revolution from 1966-1976. During that time, she was taken to labor camps and eventually ended up on the street. The experience is what motivated her to begin working with Humboldt County's homeless.
A reception will follow at the Humboldt County Chinese School.
Persons who wish to request disability-related accommodations, should contact the MultiCultural Center 707-826-3364 or mcc@humboldt.edu as soon as possible. Sponsored by HSU Diversity, Dept of Theatre, Film & Dance, Wells Fargo Bank, All Under Heaven.
