Forestry Professor Jeffrey Kane presents "Pyrodiversity in Northern California Ecosystems."
This talk will provide a tour through common fire-prone ecosystems of Northern California, ranging from the Pacific coast to the high-elevation forests of the Klamath Mountains. The importance of fire varies across this broad landscape and it is this variability that has helped shape the forests and their unique plant adaptations. Past land management, continued climatic warming, and other issues pose interesting challenges to managing the ecosystems of this diverse region.
