"Stromatolites Even John Longshore Would Love!" presented by Russell Shapiro, of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at CSU Chico.
Like the proverbial tree in the forest, a fossil isn’t a fossil when we can no longer recognize it as such. This is an important question when one is addressing the data for the oldest fossils on Earth or potentially, a fossil record from elsewhere in the solar system.
This presentation will address the mineralogical changes of ancient bacterial stromatolites that have been subjected to contact metamorphism and intense strain associated with tectonic collision belts.
