Golden States of Grace: Prayers of the Disinherited

First Street Gallery
Humboldt State University's First Street Gallery presents "Golden States of Grace: Prayers of the Disinherited," a photo documentary exhibit by Rick Nahmias.This acclaimed traveling exhibition of black and white photography aims to give image and voice to nearly a dozen virtually invisible communities on California's religious landscape.

Golden States of Grace will run from February 1st through March 3rd with an artist's talk March 1 at 5 p.m. in Room 102 of the Art Department building on HSU's campus. There will also be a book signing and reception for the artist from 6-9 p.m. March 2 at the gallery.

The HSU First Street Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m. and is located at 422 First Street, Eureka, California.

Dr. Winston Choi, a performer and composer who is currently head of the piano program at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, gives a master class for HSU students and members of the public. He performs in Fulkerson Hall on Saturday night.

The Wailers

AS Presents The Wailers, Roger Steffens and DJ Dub Cowboy Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 9 p.m. in the Van Duzer Theatre. Reggae historian Roger Steffens invites you to join him for an exhilarating journey into the musical history of the royal family of reggae, The Wailers, through an incredible multimedia presentation of Bob Marley and The Wailers Survival tour. The Wailers will perform the iconic Survival album in its entirety, with songs like “So Much Trouble in the World,” “Africa Unite" and "Ride Natty Ride.” The anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies. Opening the show will be DJ Dub Cowboy, the host of KHSU’s long running reggae program.
