Hailed by the New York Times as “one of the greatest musicians in jazz history,” Grammy Award-winning saxophone giant Joe Lovano has put together a red-hot ensemble featuring the sensational Esperanza Spalding on bass, as well as pianist James Weidman and drummers Otis Brown III and Francisco Mela. The band’s most recent release, Bird Songs, is an exploration of the Charlie Parker songbook that breaks the mold of tribute records. Expect the improvisational sparks to fly as the Us Five clearly demonstrate why they were named Best Jazz Group of the Year by the Down Beat Critics Poll.
