Cape and Cowl Bouldering Competition

Far North Climbing Gym
Calling all climbers and spectators! Join the Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP) for our annual bouldering competition fundraiser. The theme is cape and cowl, so come dressed as your favorite superhero! There will be men's and women's categories for beginning, intermediate and advanced climbers. There will also be prizes for the top 3 competitors in each category. Join us for music, raffles and fun!

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 6 p.m.

Shakuntala

Gist Hall Theater
The HSU Dept. of Theatre, Film & Dance presents a new adaptation of the magical love story from India, Shakuntala, a family-friendly holiday show in Gist Hall Theatre on the HSU campus in Arcata for two weekends: November 29-December 1, and December 6-8 at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. , from the HSU Box Office (826-3928) or at the door.

The adaptation of this Sanskrit classic is by HSU professor and playwright Margaret Thomas Kelso who describes it as a “very sweet fairy tale--with the usual ominous complications-- that everyone can enjoy, including children.”

With a premiere adaptation, original music by HSU Music professor Brian Post, and directed by HSU professor Rae Robison, this is a unique production of a popular favorite in India seldom seen anywhere in the U.S.

Percussion Ensemble & Calypso Band

Van Duzer Theater
Percussion Ensemble performs an intricate Balinese ritual-based work plus pieces by John Cage, Michael Udow and Lynn Glassock, followed by the World Percussion Group performing traditional Mandeng drumming of West Africa, using only indigenous instruments. Then the Humboldt State Calypso Band takes the stage with their high-energy dance music of Caribbean Carnival, featuring the Panorama steel band classic, “Pan in A Minor.” Eugene Novotney and Howard Kaufman conduct.

The Super Holiday Show

HSU Campus
HSU's improv club, the Unscripted Sutras, salutes family, friends and materialism.

Admission is free and donations support local charities, including the YES House Golden Years Program.
