"Subdividing: Secrets of Musical Rhythm and Tonality" presented by Craig Kurumada, ASC, Mathematics and Computer Science, HSU and musician.
Our own culture plays a great role in conditioning our perception of normalcy in music and rhythm. In this talk, Kurumada will introduce new ways of viewing rhythm and tonality. Through a demonstration of Asian and Balkan music and dance, Kurumada will provide the audience with tools to
expand their appreciation of the ways humans make music. No background in music theory or dance ability is necessary.
Craig Kurumada earned his BA in Linguistics from the University of Utah. He has studied and performed Balkan music for 25 years and is a member of the international folk band, Chubritza.
