All day-Oct 12th	Indigenous Peoples Week (IPW) HSU Campus HSU's annual IPW will kick off on the Columbus Day holiday. There are many events scheduled throughout the week.
10:00 am-11:00 am	Reception for Vice President of University Administration and Finance Goodwin Forum Join us in welcoming Humboldt State University's new Vice President of Administration and Finance, Joyce Lopes. Joyce, a CPA, comes to HSU after several years of service as the Chief Business Officer for the Western Placer Unified School District in Lincoln, California. She has also worked in the CSU as the Director of Grants and Contract Administration for CSU Sacramento. Joyce has an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Colorado. This will also be an opportunity to thank Vice President Burt Nordstrom for his many years of service to HSU but especially his excellent work as our Vice President for Administrative Affairs over the last several years.

Make new friends and meet American Indian faculty and staff. Refreshments provided. This reception is open to all who identify with and/or support the Native American community.
5:00 pm-6:00 pm	Orientation for SED Credential Program Teaching junior high and high school students can have a lasting effect on our youth. HSU’s Secondary Education Credential Program will prepare you to teach the next generation at a critical time in their development. Come to an orientation for the SED Credential Program to learn more.
5:00 pm-6:30 pm	Geology Colloquium HSU Campus "California's Earthquake Early Warning System," presented by Dr. Jim Goltz, of the Earthquake-Tsunami Program for the California Emergency Management Agency.
5:30 pm	Requiem for CAMP: Post-Mortem for a Drug War Institution Native American Forum Dominic Corva of the Department of Public Policy at Sarah Lawrence College, Yonkers, N.Y. will examine southern Humboldt’s policing experience in a retrospective of California’s Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (CAMP), launched in 1983. Corva’s lecture also will dwell on CAMP’s legacy for future illicit cannabis production. “The life and death of CAMP offer a unique analytical window into the time and space of the U.S. war on drugs in a global context,” according to the Department of Sociology’s Josh Meisel, co-director of the Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research. He is also associate professor and graduate coordinator of HSU’s Criminology and Justice Studies. Corva’s analysis draws on CAMP report archives, ethnographic interviews and secondary data sources. He will survey the geo-politics of CAMP’s emergence, its attempts to police the “Emerald Triangle” and its eclipse by new political and economic realities, including the global recession that broke out in December, 2007 and the 2008 Wall Street collapse that ensued.
