Incoming EOP freshmen - Summer Bridge 2011
What is Summer Bridge Orientation (SBO)?
Summer Bridge is a week-long residential mandatory orientation program that provides entering EOP freshmen with the tools necessary to navigate a successful transition to Humboldt State University.
As an SBO participant, you will have the opportunity to connect with other incoming EOP freshmen & EOP staff, you will receive advising & mentoring, and the chance to familiarize yourself with HSU and the surrounding communities.
When does it start?
SBO Check-in: AUGUST 17, 2014 from 9 ‒ 10am
All EOP students are required to check-in for Summer Bridge Orientation @ the Karshner Lounge, in the University Center,2nd Floor from 9am ‒ 10am. Please park in LOTS G1 & R2 off of LK Wood Blvd. & Granite Ave. A parking permit is required for the day and will be provided at check-in.

EOP Early Housing Check-in: AUGUST 16 from 10am ‒ 6pm
Students planning to live on-campus may move-in ANYTIME between 10am ‒ 6pm. Students will be in the room that was assigned and confirmed to them by Housing. Please check-in @ the Jolly Giant Commons (JGC) Recreation Room, 1st floor. Please park in LOTS G1 & R2 off of LK Wood Blvd. & Granite Ave. A parking permit is required for the day and will be provided at check-in. HSU campus map
EOP Welcome Dinner & Parent Orientaton: AUGUST 16 from 6pm ‒ 8:30pm
We encourage you and your family/guests to attend our dinner (free of charge) in order to meet EOP staff, other EOP students and their parents! Your family/guests are more than welcome to help you move in, attend the dinner, and participate in the Parent Orientation that will be offered in English & Spansih, however, they cannot attend any Summer Bridge Orientation activities.
Who can attend and is it required?
All EOP freshmen are required to attend Summer Bridge Orientation and will also participate in other Orientation activities required by the university. Participation in SBO is mandatory. Please note: SBO workshops and activites typically run from 8am ‒8pm. If you are a student living off-campus and/or are working, you must make prior arrangements regarding your work schedule or family obligations.
What does it cost to attend?
SBO is provided at NO COST. However, you may be charged for some lodging & meals, please read below:
ON-CAMPUS students Your lodging & meals will be covered by the program until Housing’s “move-in-day”, which is August 19. From that date on, you are responsible for covering your own lodging & meals.
OFF-CAMPUS students All of your meals will be covered for the entire duration of the program.
What are your travel plans?
Whether you are arriving by bus or plane, our EOP staff will be there to pick you up and bring you to campus! Please let us know as soon as possible whether you will be driving up with family or friends, arriving by bus on AMTRAK or Greyhound, or by plane on United Airlines.
*Parents & family are not allowed to stay on campus in the Residence Halls and must find their own lodging accommodations.

OFF-CAMPUS students: We’d still like to know how & when you will be arriving but no need to check-in until Sunday, AUGUST 17(from 9 ‒ 10am) for Summer Bridge Orientation
We are a first come first served program, please don’t risk the chance of being placed on a wait list.
In order to be eligible for June Registration from June 16 ‒ 27 for fall 2014 courses, you must complete the following:
IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES
February 28: Registration deadline for the ELM/EPT placement tests. Test date: 3/15
*We prefer that you register for this test date in order for us to receive your scores in a timely manner.
March 3: First day to sign up for Summer Bridge Orientation (deadline is May 1st)
March 3: On-Campus Housing Applications are available. Secure your spot! Apply at: www.humboldt.edu/housing/apply
Please note: Housing is assigned on a first-come/first-served basis and is determined by the date you complete the application. If you submitted a FAFSA, your housing deposit is $200 instead of $500.
April: Financial Aid Awards are dispersed...check your STUDENT CENTER (SC)!
May 1: Intent to Enroll Deadline ‒ Accept your admission to HSU in your SC!
May 1: Deadline to sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation
June 16: Registration for Fall 2014 Classes
Please note: In order to be eligible, you must accept your admission to HSU (by 5/1) & sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation (by 5/1).
August 17-22: Summer Bridge Orientation (Early Housing Check-in on 8/17 & SB Check-in on 8/18)
August 25: 1st Day of School @ HSU
Sign Up for Summer Bridge 2014 by logging-in to myHumboldt, click on the Student Center icon, then click on the orientation link under the Admissions section.
