In accordance with CSU’s Accessible Technology Initiative, Humboldt State University strongly encourages captioning of all videos used in online courses and on the University website.
If you are planning on using a video in your course materials, there are several ways to ensure that it is captioned:
Use YouTube whenever possible.
- YouTube automatically captions videos with a very good accuracy rate. If you wish, you can then download the captions, edit them if needed, and upload them back to YouTube.
Take advantage of our captioning service.
- The Department of eLearning & Extended Education has a part-time student captioner on staff, who can caption your videos for you.
Use third-party captioning software.
- Video editing programs like TechSmith’s Camtasia and Adobe Premiere have built-in captioning features
- Also, there are many good free software captioning products, including Media Access Generator (MAGpie) and World Caption
