How do I convert my Word Document to PDF?

First, save your document as a Word file. Click the file tab or Microsoft Office button (both of these are located in the top left corner of the screen in your Word Document). Point your arrow over “Save As” and click “PDF or XPS.” You may also be able to select “Save as Adobe PDF.” A window will open that allows you to choose where on your computer to save the PDF. Some versions of Word will ask you how you’d like to optimize your document. Next to “Optimize for,” choose “Standard (publishing online and printing)” before you publish the PDF. If you are using Microsoft Word 2007 or earlier, visit http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/msoffice/convert-word-2007-documents-to-pdf-format/367 for more specific instructions.

GUIDELINES

Can I submit an entry that doesn’t specifically address one of your questions?
While we prefer that entries address one or more of our key questions, we will consider all entries that relate to our theme of “Diversity at HSU.” If your entry does not address one of our key questions, please be sure to describe your objectives and how it relates to the theme of “Diversity at HSU” in the notes section of the online submission form.

Can I submit more than one entry?
No. There is a limit of one entry per person.

Can a group of students submit a single entry together?
Yes. Collaborative projects are welcome and encouraged. If your entry is selected as a finalist, the $250 award will be given to the person who submitted the entry online. Your group will be responsible for dividing your $250 award among yourselves.

If I am submitting an entry on my own, can I also submit one as part of a collaborative/group project?
No. There is a limit of one entry per person, so you’ll have to decide whether you want to submit on your own or with your group.

CONCERNS

Your guidelines say that I should be willing and available to collaborate on edits and revisions with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Should I be worried that you’re going to change my work?
No. We want to make sure we maintain the authenticity of your story/experiences, and we will not ask you to make drastic changes to your work. With that said, we also want to publish pieces that are both finished and professional, and we hope to work with all our finalists on minor edits/revisions as necessary. We will make every effort to ensure that you are comfortable with any changes, and that we maintain the integrity of your original piece. Further, we will not publish your work without your explicit permission.

Do I have to use a pseudonym (fake name)?
No. However, because finalist entries will be published in a public document (and available on our website), we do encourage you to consider this as an option, especially if your work reveals very personal stories or information that you might not otherwise feel comfortable sharing with the world.

AWARD LOGISTICS

I submitted my entry. When will I hear form you?
You will be notified of the status of your entry by March 29, 2013. Select this link to see our Timeline page.

When and how are awards distributed?
Finalists will receive a check for $250 after the Office of Diversity and Inclusion receives your completed final version. We expect to distribute award checks around May 10, 2013.

I am submitting an audio/video entry. How will you publish this in a printed report?
We will publish finalist audio/video pieces in the online version of the Dissecting Diversity Report, and may also include them in future audio/video projects related to the work of our office.
