Explo­rations in Afro-Cuban Dance & Drum[conga drum]

An annual sum­mer week-long pro­gram that cel­e­brates the folk­loric music, songs, and dances of Afro-Cuba. Internationally-recognized instruc­tors join local fac­ulty to teach stu­dents of all skill lev­els. Havana, Matan­zas and Haitiano styles of Afro-Cuban dance and drum tech­niques will be rep­re­sented. See more

Brass Cham­ber Music Workshop

In two ses­sions each sum­mer, BCMW wel­comes brass musi­cians of all abil­ity lev­els to play cham­ber music for brass instru­ments. The unique work­shop set­ting and exten­sive music library pro­vide par­tic­i­pants with the oppor­tu­nity to play in a vari­ety of ensem­bles, rang­ing from trios to dectets, with coach­ing by some of the finest brass play­ers on the West Coast. The Hum­boldt Cham­ber Music Workshop

This is the longest-running cham­ber music work­shop in Cal­i­for­nia. It offers three ses­sions every sum­mer. Musi­cians from all over the U.S. gather for a week of music-making. Each day an assign­ment is given, each group is coached by a pro­fes­sional coach, and per­forms a 5-minute seg­ment of the work in a pro­gram for the other par­tic­i­pants. There are mixed instru­men­ta­tion (strings, wood­winds, piano, horn) ensem­bles and the music is var­ied. See more

Hum­boldt Music Academy

Music classes for ages 2 through 18 include Suzuki method classes, classes in singing, musi­cal the­ater, fid­dle play­ing, world folk music, bucket drum­ming and more. Sev­eral ensem­bles and pri­vate les­sions are also avail­able. Pre­sented by the Office of Dis­tance & Extended Edu­ca­tion and the HSU Depart­ment of Music in fall, spring and sum­mer. See more
