New Transfer Degrees – CSU Faculty Needed ASAP

Faculty in the following disciplines are needed to participate in the development of new associate degrees for transfer:

- Child and Adolescent Development
- Exercise Science
- Graphic Arts/Graphic Design
- Health Science
- Hospitality/Hotel Management
- Nutrition/Food Science/Dietetics
- Environmental Science/Studies

CSU faculty in these disciplines will participate in the development of transfer model curriculum patterns upon which community colleges build their transfer degrees. Participating in this process will increase the probability that transfer students will be as well prepared as possible for their upper division major course work once they arrive at the CSU. It also gives transfer students access to CSU (note that spring admission in 2013 is open at certain campuses for students with transfer degrees). CSU programs benefit from having a pipeline of students feeding into their disciplines. Another reason CSU faculty should participate is that the legislation establishing the transfer degrees requires that these students be able to complete their major in only 60 units when similar degrees are offered at the CSU campus.

Please distribute this information to relevant CSU disciplinary faculty and encourage them to participate in the upcoming meetings. The meetings are October 19th for the north region and November 2nd for the south. The attached document provides additional details and registration information. In addition to department chairs and faculty, it may be useful to share this information with deans; they may have familiarity with the significance of this process, which was used to develop the 20-plus transfer degrees already established.

Questions should be directed to Barbara Swerkes at barbara.swerkes@csun.edu.
