SCB HSU
More than just a campus club, SCB HSU is an affiliate of the Society for Conservation Biology, a non-profit international organization dedicated to preserving our planet's biodiversity through science and education.
About the Club
Our club consists of two separate committees: The Conservation committee, and the Biodiversity conference committee.
The conservation committee is dedicated to bringing awareness to local issues and influencing change to environmental policy by critically analyzing published research. Our current semester project is concerned with redwood forest restoration, in which we are focusing on drafting a “white paper” report (a summary of our research review) by the end of the spring semester, which will then be submitted to our parent organization, the Society for Conservation Biology.
The Biodiversity Conference committee is committed organizing and hosting our annual Biodiversity Conference held at Humboldt State every fall. The primary goal of the Biodiversity Conference is facilitate awareness and understanding of the current issues facing our environment. The three day event includes talks given by experts in their respective fields, as well as educational activities for kids and grown-ups alike.
Membership Qualifications
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about preserving biodiversity. We encourage anyone who has an interest in conservation biology to join.
