American Fisheries Society HSU Student Subunit


We are a Student Subunit of the California-Nevada Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, based at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. The mission of the American Fisheries Society is to improve the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by advancing fisheries and aquatic science and promoting the development of fisheries professionals. About the Club

We attend attend regional and national fisheries conferences, work within the local community to raise awareness of fisheries issues, participate in a variety of sport fishing and social activities, and strive to assist students within HSU’s Fisheries Biology Department.

Membership Qualifications

The club is open to all undergraduate and graduate Fisheries Biology majors, undeclared students interested in the major, and students interested in fisheries issues. We highly recommend that all club members join the American Fisheries Society. Student membership is $20 per year and includes online journal subscriptions, a monthly magazine, and access to the AFS InfoBase. You can join online at American Fisheries Society or print out an application here. We also conduct a membership drive during the Spring Semester, offering a discounted membership fee of $10. Please contact a club officer for more details.
