Recreational Sports Program

Recreational Sports offers students who are interested in sports Drop-in Activities, Intramurals and Sport Clubs. Drop-in Sports offers unstructured “pick-up” games for students to participate in a variety of activities. Intramural sports offer students the opportunity to create their own teams and compete against other HSU players. Our Intramural Sport programs connect students to the campus community and each other by creating memories through diverse sporting and recreational events that promote fair play, sportsmanship, relationships, and lifelong activity in a safe environment. Club Sports offers students an avenue for competition between clubs and universities in a wide variety of sporting activities, from Archery to Ultimate Frisbee. We have 15 competitive club sports at Humboldt State University for the students to choose from.

Everybody Plays, Play with Us!

DROP-IN: Drop-in activities are set up for students, faculty and staff to come and exercise in an unstructured environment. We offer various sports during the day and evening hours. Because of limited gym space, the evening hours are only available when Intramural leagues are not in session (first 4 weeks of classes and last 4 weeks of classes). The daytime hours are ongoing throughout the semester.

INTRAMURALS: The Intramural Sports Program at HSU is designed to offer students, faculty/staff and community members’ recreational activities in which they can participate on campus. Intramural Sports offers team sports in recreational as well as competitive leagues, depending on the participants’ skill level. Leagues feature five weeks of round robin play followed by a single elimination tournament. Single day special event tournaments are also offered. Getting involved in Intramural Sports is a great way to meet new people, stay in shape, and have fun! Stop by our office in the Recreation and Wellness Center 101 to sign up!

SPORT CLUBS: The Sports Club program at Humboldt State University provides opportunities for students to participate in a competitive sport and compete with other off-campus clubs and Universities. Each sport club has a volunteer coach that will lead the team. The goal for sports club membership is to provide leadership experiences for students as well as providing skill development, fitness, and strength building in a competitive arena to showcase students’ athleticism. All students are encouraged to join a club sport, regardless of skill level
