HOME BUYER'S SEMINAR

May 28, 30, June 4, & 8

Learn everything you need to know about buying your first home including how to find your home, how to finance it, and how to inspect it. Learn about escrow, offers, contracts, insurance, taxes and more. Phillip Lazzar is a California licensed real estate broker with 30 years experience. He is a member of the Humboldt Association of Realtors, the California Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. He is looking forward to answering all of your questions.

Program Fee: $10

KNITTING ONE STITCH AT A TIME - BEGINNER

Option I: May 28 - June 25
Option II: July 1 - July 29

Learn from textile instructor Crystal Estelle-Dobbs the basics of knitting while creating 2 projects - a headband and a basic hat - as you learn to knit the 3 basic structures: stockinette, garter and rib stitches. Discover how to use 2 colors of yarn in a project, and begin to fix common mistakes every knitter makes. Each project will introduce you to techniques that lay the foundation towards more complex knitting.

Program Fee: $90

Option II: Mondays, 6:00 - 9:00pm

Note: An additional $55 materials fee will be collected at the first class meeting.

 

KNITTING ONE STITCH AT A TIME - INTERMEDIATE SOCKS

May 29 - June 26

Learn the traditional approach to knitting socks on double point needles. Knit cuffs to determine your gauge, work a classic short row heel, knit the foot and finish off with well shaped toes and the kitchener stitch. Finally, learn to adapt the pattern for any foot size. Discover that a single pattern as designed by instructor Crystal Estelle-Dobbs will give you the knowledge to knit socks for the whole family, from light weight to bulky hiking socks. Students must have beginning knit skills and be able to maintain a consistent gauge. Class supplies provided by the instructor.

Program Fee: $90

EXPLORING WATERCOLOR

May 30 - June 27

Experience the joy of painting in watercolor. The painting experience can provide personal empowerment, cosmic release, and just plain fun. This four-week course introduces the basics of drawing and painting in this magical medium. Students will create value scales, a color wheel and two paintings: a monochrome, and a complementary painting, as well as engaging in various paint-handling techniques in a non-judgmental environment. Bring a friend or family member and enjoy! No previous experience is necessary.

Program Fee: $82

Materials Needed: A materials list is available upon signing up for class. It is recommended that students bring their supplies to the first meeting of class. Supplies purchased for Part I will last for all three watercolor courses. Student discounts are available at local art supply stores.

SPINDLE SPINNING WOOL FIBER

Option I: June 3 - 24
Option II: July 13 - 27

Instructor Crystal Estelle-Dobbs will teach how to spin a singles wool yarn and 2 ply on a handspindle. Learn how to join new fiber, how to control twist for a soft or firm yarn, plus what type of projects to use theses different yarns for. Samples of wool, silk, quivet, cotton, mohair, plus more fibers from around the world will be discussed. Wool from Humboldt County's Fibershed will be spun with. Once you have become comfortable with the basic spinning skills, a spinning wheel will be available to practice on. This class is designed for both beginners who have never spun yarn and for handspinners wanting to build their knowledge and skills.

Program Fee: $80

Materials Needed: Pencil, folder, 2 toilet paper rolls, 2 plastic containers with lids and a shoe box.

Option II: Saturdays, 9:00am - 1:00pm

HOME SELLER'S SEMINAR

June 11 & 13

Learn what you need to know about selling your house, including: How to figure out its value, how to price it, how to find qualified buyers, how to make sure they are qualified, how to negotiate the best price, how escrow works and who pays for what, inspections and disclosures, what is a short-sale amd a deed-in-lieu, what to do if you owe more than the home is worth, and more.

Program Fee: $10

KNITTING ONE STITCH AT A TIME - INTERMEDIATE
FAIR ISLE SWEATER

July 9 - 31

Learn to knit a traditional fair isle pullover sweater. Knit sleeves to determine our stitch and row gauge. Work the body from the bottom up starting with a 2 colored ribbed band. Knit the yoke with a fair isle design. Learn to read color charts, trap yarns, and make perfect stranded floats. Instructor Crystal Estelle-Dobbs will guide you in learning these knitting skills while you make a child's size sweater. Students must have beginning knit skills and be able to maintain a consistent gauge.

Program Fee: $120
