LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION COURSE

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to recognize and eliminate common aquatic hazards, accidents and injuries. Participants must be at least 15 years of age and have excellent swim skills. Includes training and certification in Lifeguarding , First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Class space is limited.

Program Fee: $195, includes lifeguard training manual, pocket mask and certification cards.

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

By Appointment Only

This lifeguarding and CPR challenge is designed to recertify current lifeguards. There will be no review of course material. Patrons must demonstrate practical skills and complete a written test for full certification.

Program Fee: $90 per certification

NAUI SCUBA DIVER COURSE

Session I: Pre-SCUBA - January 21, Class Starts - January 26, Open Water Dive Weekend - March 1-3
Session II: Pre-SCUBA - March 18, Class Starts - March 23, Open Water Dive Weekend - April 26-28
Session III: Pre-SCUBA - May 13, Class Starts - May 18, Open Water Dive Weekend - June 21-23

The NAUI SCUBA Diver Course is a five week program of instruction in the safe use of SCUBA equipment and water skills. The class consists of Saturday classroom lectures at the Alpha Training Group facility in Fairhaven, and Monday night pool sessions at the Arcata Community Pool. The course concludes with an open water dive in Mendocino over a weekend. Students will be required to provide a set of personal dive equipment and wetsuit for the open water portion of the course. Student equipment requirements are discussed in detail during the lecture seminar. All participants must fill out a medical evaluation prior to course. Evaluations are available at the front desk.

Program Fee: $400 Plus additional charges for equipment

Pre-SCUBA Fees: $7 Drop-In Fee

Practices - Mondays, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Students may register for SCUBA, but must attend and pass the Pre-SCUBA Class.

SWIFTWATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN UNIT 1 (SRTUI)

This course is the first of three classes needed for personnel to meet the Technician level NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents and the NFPA 1006 Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications in the area of water. It is an intensive three-day, 24 to 30-hour class that has one day of classroom instruction followed by two days developing and practicing water rescue skills. The initial emphasis is on self-rescue skills. Other objectives include an in-depth look at such subjects as water dynamics, controlling in-water contact rescues, and much more. Information from this course is applicable to anyone confronted with potential water rescue, as well as self-rescue.

RESCUE 3: RIVER RESCUE CERTIFICATION

This workshop teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and on simple, commonly used skills. Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments and pins are also practiced. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context. Ideally, students should be able to competently maneuver a craft in at least Class II whitewater. Participants should be in good health and overall fitness, possess solid swimming ability, and be comfortable swimming in moving current during river drills. Participants should dress appropriately for weather and temperature, and should expect to be in the water for extended periods of time.

Program Fee: $245 HSU Students, $275 All Others
