Wine Tasting 101

Ever wonder what swirling wine in the glass was about? What do the “legs” really mean? This two hour class will show you how to understand and appreciate wine. To be held at Libation on the plaza in Arcata. This is the first class of their four class wine appreciation series and can be used for that series.

Making Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Learn to make chocolate covered strawberries the easy way from a professional Chocolatier. Sandra Nakashima, founder and co-owner of Drakes Glen Creations will show you how to make artisan dipped strawberries. You will learn how to temper real chocolate, then dip strawberries and decorate. You will leave the class with the berries you dip and a deeper understanding of what goes into making chocolates. This is a fun class and no previous chocolate skill is needed.

Introduction to Archery

October 11

Introduction to Archery is open to archers of every skill level. This course is designed to introduce beginning archers to the basic fundamentals of the sport in accordance with the National Training System; this includes: proper posture and alignment, aiming, the release and follow through. This class will utilize the hands-on application of using a bow and arrow in conjunction with demonstrations and lectures. This course will also discuss the proper care and use of archery equipment.

Eureka Slough Canoe Tour

From Wiyot tribal history to Alexander von Humboldt, there is no better way to connect the past and present than to canoe the waterway at our doorstep. This 3-hour tour gets you behind the scenes of storefronts and into the natural ebb and flow of timeless Nature.

Moonrise Paddle Tour

Come for a Saturday evening paddle and watch the moon rise through the Humboldt Bay mist. We provide a choice of kayak or canoe and experienced guides to run these short hour and a half adventures.

Eel River Slough & Cock Robin Island Tour

October 12
This tour takes place on the Eel River Slough and Cock Robin Island located just north of Ferndale and west of Loleta. This is an area rich in wildlife as it is influenced by both fresh water flowing from the Eel River and by saltwater coming in and out with the tides. After paddling, we will stop at the local Loleta Cheese Factory for some tasty samples. Additional information will be mailed upon registration.

Current or less than 1 year expired NREMT candidates who wish to maintain national certification can also take this course for the "Transition" updated curriculum. Kayak Classroom

October 17 & 18

Start here. This is a 2-hour classroom-based introduction to kayaking, with a 2-hour on-water follow up the next day. Get the overview, learn the gear, see the boats and set the foundation for safe paddling before you ever get wet. Then take your new knowledge and practice new skills in the protected Humboldt Bay.

Get a new perspective on paddling while getting a fun workout. Join the growing world of stand up paddling by learning the essential information and skills for the sport. Humboldt Bay provides the flat water, scenery, and wildlife viewing - you provide the laughter and muscle power as you learn basic techniques for a new lifelong passion.
