Knots Seminar

April 2

Outdoor enthusiasts use an assortment of ropes and knots for outdoor skills. Many of these same knots can be useful for a variety of everyday uses, ranging from camping, climbing, sailing, loading vehicles, and more. This seminar will cover various knots including hitches, bends, loops and other important knots. If you would like to have the mystery taken out of knot tying, this class is for you!

Introduction to Windsurfing

April 5

With some of the world’s greatest windsurfing spots right here in Humboldt County, this is an opportunity to learn one of the most versatile forms of sailing. This course is designed for beginners, combining both a classroom pre-trip session as well as an outdoor lesson with an optional second day (level II) for practice. Participants will get familiar with the sport by learning the basic knots, equipment and weather considerations needed to enjoy windsurfing.

Lifeguard Certification Course

April 8 - 24

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to recognize and eliminate common aquatic hazards, accidents and injuries. Participants must be at least 15 years of age and have excellent swim skills. Includes training and certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Class space is limited.

Rafting the North Coast

Join us for a day of adventure on one of the North Coast’s premier stretches of Class III whitewater, intermixed with serene, relaxing sections ideal for swimming and wildlife viewing. The river we choose will be dependent on river flows and conditions.

Wilderness First Aid / WIlderness First Responder Recertification with WMI of NOLS

April 12 - 13

This two-day course covers the basics of emergency care with an emphasis on extended care situations. A Wilderness First Aid certification card is awarded upon completion of the class. This certification is becoming the standard for First Aiders who are more than one hour from more advanced medical assistance. In order to recertify Wilderness First Responder through this WFA course, students must have a current WFR certification from WMI, SOLO, NOLS, WMA or WPT. Students are required to submit a photocopy of their WFR certification cards on the first day of the course. There is a one-year grace period for recertification of WMI & NOLS cards. (Keep in mind that you are not current during this grace period and therefore cannot work as a Wilderness First Responder.) Please check your WFR certification closely. WMI will not recertify cards from organizations other than those listed. CPR is not included. Please note that the registration deadline is well in advance of the course. Minimum class size is 15. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

April 12

This six-hour course is the highest level of CPR offered and is designed for first responders and health-care professionals to help care for victims in the event of an emergency. The course contents include recognizing an emergency, legal obligation, preventing disease transmission, working with different breathing barriers for resuscitation, and learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Introduction to Stand Up Paddling

As the ancient Hawaiian form of surfing, Stand Up Paddle Surfing has reemerged as a popular and fun fitness form. The introduction course provides the essential information and skills needed to enjoy paddling on flat water. Enjoy the sights of our local waterfront, while getting a fun workout at the same time. Topics covered will include equipment, basic paddling technique and board maneuvering as well as health benefits.
