2014 Associated Students Elections

Associated Students has elections packets available now for 2014-15 AS Council positions.  Students can pick up campaign information, petition and agreements from the Associated Students Business Office.  The following positions are available on the AS Council:

Associated Students Executive Opportunities

Associated Students President - The AS Presidents is the Chief Executive Office and Representative of the Associated Students.  The President fills vacancies on the Associated Students Council, appoints students to campus committees and proposes legislation to the AS Council.  The AS President is a voting member of the AS Council. ($6,750 stipend)

Administrative Vice President - The Administrative Vice President is the chair of the AS Board of Finance and the AS Events Funding Committee.  This position leads the AS Council and AS Programs through the annual budget process.  The Administrative Vice President appoints students to Committees.  The Administrative Vice President is a voting member of the AS Council. ($1,950 stipend)

Legislative Vice President - The Legislative Vice President is chair of the AS Council and leads AS Council meetings. The Legislative Vice President is the Council representative to academic committees including the Integrated Curriculum Committee and the Academic Policies Committee.  The Legislative Vice President appoints students to committees. ($1,950 stipend)

Student Affairs Vice President - The Student Affairs Vice President is chair of the AS Students Affairs Advisory Committee and a voting member of the University Center Board of Directors and AS Event Funding Board.  The Student Affairs Vice President appoints students to committees and plans and exeutes annual Associated Students events including the AS Welcome Back BBQ and the AS Student Lounge. ($1,950 stipend)

Associated Students Council Member Opportunities

The Associated Students Council is comprised of representatives from different academic colleges of the University.  The Council also has two at-large representatives and a graduate students representative.

College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Representative - (3 positions) Departments include: Anthropology, Art, Communication, Critical Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Dance English, Film, Geography, History, International Studies, Journalism, World Languages and Cultures, Music, Native American Studies, Philosophy, Political Sciences, Religious Studies, Sociology and Theater ($1,250 stipend)

College of Professional Studies Representative - (3 positions) Departments include: Business, Child Development, Economics, Education, Kinesiology, Liberal Studies, psychology, Recreation Administration and Social Work ($1,250 stipend)

College of Natural Resources & Sciences Representative - (3 positions) Departments Include: Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences,. Engineering, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Forestry, Natural Resources, Mathematics and Computer Sciences. ($1,250 stipend)

At-Large Representative - (2 positions) These positions are elected by and represents all HSU students ($1,250 stipend)

Graduate Representative - (1 position) This positions is elected by and represents students enrolled in HSU Graduate Programs. ($1,250 stipend)

Associated Students Nonvoting Appointed Opportunities

AS Presents Representative - (1 position) The AS Presents Representative oversees the production of events for the AS Presents Programming Series.  This position will be appointed by the incoming AS President.  To apply please deliver a cover letter and resume to the Associated Students office.  The initial review of applications will begin on Tuesday, April 29, to be considered in the initial review please apply no later than Monday, April 28.  More information about this position may be found at the Career Center’s jobsite: http://www.humboldt.edu/career (Springboard Job ID# 20499)

AS External Affairs Representative - (1 position) The AS External Affairs Representative represents HSU students on the California State Student Association and leads the Associated Students lobbying and voter registration efforts.  This position will be appointed by the incoming AS President.  To apply please deliver a cover letter and resume to the Associated Students office.  The initial review of applications will begin on Tuesday, April 29, to be considered in the initial review please apply no later than Monday, April 28.  More information about this position may be found at the Career Center’s jobsite: http://www.humboldt.edu/career (Springboard Job ID# 20500)

Associated Students Committee Member Opportunities

Associated Students is the vehicle for student involvement in the shared governance of Humboldt State.  AS Executives are assigned appointments to various campus committees and are responsible for reviewing applications for committee vacancies, interviewing fellow student candidates and requesting approval of their recommendation to the AS Council.  Committee opportunities are available to all students and applications for committee vacancies are accepted and appointed throughout the academic year.  The Associated Students publishes the annual AS Committee Handbook which provides potential student leaders with detailed information on all university committees that have student appointments.  A list of current students serving on Committees is available on our website so that students can contact student committee members by e-mail and view which positions are currently vacant.  If you are interested in applying for a committee position for this year please fill out our simple online application form.  After your application is submitted you will be contacted by an AS Executive.
