Temporary Faculty Pool
Temporary Faculty Pool Recruitment Process:
Each department maintains a year-round pool of applicants interested in teaching as a lecturer or working as a coach, librarian or counselor. The deadline for applications is April 1st each year. Applications received by that date will receive full consideration for work available in the upcoming academic year. Applications received after April 1st will be added to the pool and considered if a course or assignment becomes available for which there are no other qualified applicants in the pool. Application materials are kept on file for three years. After that time, a new application is required.
Note for new Lecturer applicants: After assigning courses to permanent faculty, academic departments identify courses that are available for assignment to lecturers. Most of the available courses are assigned to currently employed lecturers. However, courses do become available either because currently employed lecturers do not have the required qualifications for unassigned courses, or because of last minute resignations, faculty leaves, release time projects and other unanticipated events.
Click on Temporary Faculty Pool Opportunities to see each department’s list of courses or assignments and required minimum qualifications. Minimum qualifications consist of the academic degree, experience and academic preparation necessary to teach the course or fulfill the assignment successfully. Courses or assignments with similar minimum qualifications are grouped together. Please note that lecturers are often assigned lower-division courses (those numbered in the 100 and 200 series); however, upper-division and graduate courses do become available and may be assigned to qualified lecturers.
Courses listed may not be offered or available every term. Please check with the department for a list of available course assignments. We encourage all qualified candidates to submit an application indicating courses of interest. The department’s address and contact information are listed at the bottom of the course or assignment list. Specific questions regarding course content, required qualifications or additional application materials should be addressed directly to the department.
To apply, please submit the appropriate application form with the requested application materials directly to the department. A separate application form is required for each department to which you are applying.
Below is a list of resources useful to prospective applicants:
The Schedule of Classes lists the courses scheduled to be taught each semester.
The Course Catalog provides a general description of the regularly offered courses.
The Academic Calendar lists the instructional schedule for each semester.
The CSU Salary Schedule (Excel) displays salaries for each range. Typically, lecturers are appointed at the entry level salary for the range; however, placement on the salary schedule is determined by each College Dean. Generally, lecturers with a Bachelor’s degree are appointed in the Lecturer L range, those with a Master’s degree are appointed in the Lecturer A range and those with a doctorate are appointed in the Lecturer B range.
